1st Grade Boys Lacrosse
Our 1st grade boys program is designed to give kids a
jump-start on the sport of lacrosse. Lacrosse is one of the fastest
growing sports in our area as well as nationally. Our trained and experienced
coaches will introduce the sport to your youngster in a fun and exciting
environment.
Each 90-minute session will consist
of 45 minutes of instruction and 45 minutes of a modified game. A soft
rubber ball will be used for safety. Although lacrosse is generally
a contact sport, our 1st grade boys "soft" program will be
STRICTLY non-contact. No equipment is required to purchase, although you will need to supply a mouthguard. All other equipment is supplied by the club.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don't know anything
about lacrosse. What is it?
A: Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports on the youth level
in America. It combines the speed and quickness of soccer with the scoring
and action of hockey. US Lacrosse, which is the governing body for all
levels of lacrosse, has a great web site that can explain more in depth
the game itself- www.uslacrosse.org
Q: Are there injuries
in the sport of lacrosse?
A: Lacrosse is generally a safe sport at the youth level. As with any
sport there are inherent risks associated with participation. Our 1st
Grade program is strictly non-contact, but we will require the kids
to use a mouthpiece and wear eye protection. We want to introduce the
game to your son in an open environment where he can find out if it's
a sport he would like to pursue.
Q: I hear it costs a lot
of money to play. What kind of equipment is required?
A: Our 1st Grade program costs only $25 to participate. You don't need to go out and buy any additional equipment to play. Other than a mouthguard, all equipment is supplied by the club.
Q: Can my son play both
Baseball and Lacrosse?
A: Absolutely! We would encourage your son to play any other spring
sport in conjunction with our 1st grade lacrosse program. This is a
low-pressure environment where we want to simply introduce the game
to the kids. Conflicts with other sports are OK with us.
Q: What can I expect my
son to learn at the sessions?
A: We will focus on the core fundamentals of lacrosse, which are throwing,
catching and ground balls as well as offensive and defensive concepts.
All drills will be taught and executed with enthusiasm by the coaches.
We will make sure all the kids are having fun while they are there.
We are hoping this program will get kids excited about the game of lacrosse
at an early age.
